Objectives

The aim of the Sea Cadets is to give young people aged 10 to 18 the best possible head start in life through nautical adventure and fun, based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy. Our training activities include canoeing, kayaking, sailing, rowing, swimming, camping and adventure training, climbing, mountain biking, first aid, catering, seamanship skills, communication skills, marine engineering, navigation and physical training.

Cadets have the opportunity to study for CVQO BTEC in both Music and Personal Development and Leadership, NVQ 3 Institute of Leadership and Management and Duke of Edinburgh awards. There is opportunity for travel both national and internationally. All our activities help young people to experience adventure, personally develop and gain valuable qualifications along the way.

Sea Cadets offers an environment where young people find new confidence and inspiration, helping them to develop life skills, like teamwork and independence and guide them towards responsible adulthood. They develop life-long friendships based on shared interests and take pride in their progress.

Cadets progress through the ranks gaining confidence and qualifications, then use the skills to pass on their knowledge to the next rank of cadets.

Many of our cadets continue once they turn 18 and become volunteer adult instructors and complete a full 3 year training programme. Some also join the ranks of the Armed Forces and go on to protect their country.
