Objectives

We work with deaf people. 1 in 7 people have some kind of deafness ranging from a moderate hearing loss or severe or profound deafness.

We provide a number of services including a Sign Language Interpreting service, a welfare rights advice service and a range of community activities. These services and activities help deaf people to access everyday services people with good hearing take for granted: visiting the doctor, attending a meeting, listening to a presentation at work.

Without access to our services, deaf people would suffer isolation, social exclusion and would struggle to complete education, pursue a profession or access important health and social care services.

Activities

We offer a number of services and activities:

  • A culturally and linguistically accessible building in Nottingham which hosts a range of deaf led community groups and activities.
  • Sign Language interpreting service
  • Deaf Welfare Rights Advice serving the whole of Nottinghamshire
  • Befriending scheme for older people
  • Accredited British Sign Language (BSL) courses
  • Deaf Awareness training for employers and organisations
  • Rental of rooms available to the community and other organisations
