When Northmoor Community Association was set up in 2000, the philosophy was simple – create a supportive and welcoming place where people would feel comfortable to come if they have a need. From this it developed into what we offer today, an integral location for community development with a diverse and ever expanding range of services and activities.
The majority of the activities and opportunities offered are free of charge, relying on a mixed portfolio of funding to support the services that are delivered by a dedicated team of 9 part time staff and many volunteers. Organisations and individuals are encouraged by the charity to deliver their own services which have a direct benefit or indirect benefit to the local neighbourhood. From learning how to cook, to accessing free online computer courses, from planting seeds to getting fit, there is something for anyone and everyone to get involved in.

The N.C.A’s vision for the neighbourhood of Northmoor is one of a thriving diverse vibrant community in which the N.C.A acts as a catalyst in partnership with other community and voluntary organisations, to engage with the local community for the provision of local facilities, local employment and community activity.

Northmoor Community Centre offers a wide range of inclusive services to people in the local area; there is something for everyone and they all reflect the Mission Statement of the centre.
One of our missions is Advancing Skills and Learning. We have a fully equipped I.T. suite where the " Next Steps" team support local people, especially the unemployed or those who experience a language barrier, to come and use the computers for Job Searches and Training. "Youth Can Do" creates a space where children aged 8-16 are able to come and do their homework in a supportive environment.
Relieving Poverty is another of our core missions. One way in which we help towards this is through providing a healthy meal to low income residents every Wednesday at our Northmoor Community Diner. For those that volunteer in the Diner they have the opportunity to increase their skills by training to achieve an accredited Food Hygiene certification. Another way we are continually working to help improve people’s finances is by running a Credit Union and offering a range of services related to welfare advice, money advice, HMRC services and employment support.
As well as attempting to combat social isolation in the community, Promoting Health and Wellbeing is part of our mission. MacMillan Solutions are one of our partners and they provide support to people who are affected by cancer. A Self help service runs each week for those experiencing mental health issues and ABL Health run weight management sessions. We are partners with Buzz which is the Manchester Health and Well-being service who help people to improve their health and well-being in the local and wider community.
Quality of Life is very important to us here at NCA which is why we also offer leisure activities. The Stay and Play group run by Big Life Nurseries provides a valuable space for children aged 0-5 years old and their parents to come and socialise, have fun, sing songs, do arts and crafts and learn to play. The Northmoor Community Laundrette provides vital services to the community at affordable prices. It also provides professional laundering services, has an internet café and is an information hub and meeting place. The Youth Club is run by Levenshulme Youth Project for people aged 13 and over; each week is a chance to play games and socialise. The Friendship Group is a weekly social group for men and women over 55 years old where they enjoy tea, coffee, toast and bingo.
