Objectives

Northamptonshire black history goes back over 800 years. It is unusually well documented due to the commitment of local volunteer historians over the past 30 years. Northamptonshire Black History Association was established as a community project in 1982. Over the years we have developed into a charity. We have worked on lots of exciting projects including Oral History and the Walter Tull project. As funding opportunities for charities change we understand that we must too, to secure our future. Therefore, we are looking for reliable and skilled individuals who can support us into evolving into a social enterprise.

Activities

We promote local black history in various ways including:

  • conducting research into local black history
  • publishing books and other resources
  • delivering training and workshops
  • supporting local teachers with delivering local black history
