Objectives

In 1851 large amounts of ironstone were discovered in Northamptonshire and the London and North Western Railway decided to capitalise on this occurrence by proposing a new railway line between Northampton and Market Harborough.

The line was closed to passenger traffic in 1960 but was reopen in 1969 finally withdrawing the passenger service in 1973

In June 1981, a group set up a Heritage Railway and started to rebuild the railway at the Pitsford and Brampton station which is now the railway's headquarters situated about 5 miles from Northampton

The railway now carriers  passengers on a weekly basis with carriages being pulled by heritage diesel and steam locomotives.

Activities

Regular events are organised throughout the year and for example currently a Santa Special event is being planned offering passengers a full Christmas experience.

The railway is operated by a team of volunteer working members who meet and greet passengers, operate and repair/maintain the rolling stock together with other tasks needed on a weekly basis

A planned half a mile extension is current under construction with a second station platform being built. Other projects are planned including new permanent buildings at the Pitsford and Brampton Station

The Northampton and Lamport Railway offers adults and families with young  children a memorable and enjoyable experience undertaking a train ride on a heritage railway
