Impact -
Working closely with our clients enables us to carry out a detailed assessment of their needs and aspirations. We will plan our interventions with clients and their families to ensure the best outcome for them. This ensures that clients are aware of their own role in the success of our interventions e.g for a successful surgical intervention to correct a deformity, support from the family will be required as well as commitment to follow the rehab plan by the individual themselves. These corrective surgeries are life changing.
Promoting inclusive education gives children with disabilities the opportunity to remain in the family home and attend the local school rather than being in a specialist school many miles from family and friends. Local inclusive schools help to raise awareness of the rights of children to have an education and works to include families in the progress of their child.
Providing training opportunities and financial assistance to set up a small business of their choosing gives people with disabilities an opportunity to make a living that they otherwise wouldn't have. Without support to start, the disabled person would continue to be seen as a burden to their family and local community. Working with local businesses to offer apprenticeships (sponsored by Nicky's Foundation) helps to build a sustainable structure of inclusivity among communities.
Current political instability has increased the vulnerability of people with disabilities and therefore the impact of our work has become more significant. Providing learning opportunities and employment to youths displaced by civil war gives them a purpose and a future rather than them being coerced to join gangs or left vulnerable and homeless.
The following is a list of activities that we carry out to ensure we meet our objectives -
Provide training to local professionals and volunteers in the identification of people with disabilities to ensure our target population is reached
Participate in campaigns to raise awareness among communities of the rights of people with disabilities and the rights of children
As people come forward for assistance, carry out a full assessment of their needs and refer onto specialist services if required
Work with key stakeholders such as families, social workers; teachers; hospital staff; rehabilitation centres and traditional councils to ensure the best possible outcome for the client
Work in close partnership with other supporters to ensure as many people as possible can benefit from the services available
