Objectives

The Nepal Education Foundation (NEF) has been supporting government primary schools in a remote region of Nepal for the last 14 years. Our focus has been on improving the quality of teaching and learning, basic school facilities and community participation. We work in villages ‘off the beaten track’ and deliver relatively small scale projects that are sustainable and improve children’s experience of education.

Activities

During that time we have grown from supporting a single school and now support six schools in a mountainous Tibetan region of Nepal. Our results have been impressive. For example Lingling School has been supported since 2008, and in the 2014/15 academic year (prior to the earthquake) whole school average grades were 9.6% higher than the eight surrounding schools despite the village being the most remote and disadvantaged in the area. The earthquake in April 2015 had a devastating effect on the communities we support and we are nearing the end of a two year education recovery plan. Our latest newsletters, photos and a video about our work can be found on our Facebook page.
