Objectives

The National Youth Arts Trust (NYAT) is a small performing arts charity founded in 2013. We exist to provide access to the performing arts for young people aged between 7 and 25 from disadvantaged backgrounds.

We believe that the performing arts should represent their audience, and be created by all of society; not just by the few.

However, the current economic climate means it is becoming increasingly difficult, and often impossible, for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to find expression, a voice and in many cases a career in the performing arts.

Our vision is to see a diverse and inclusive performing arts sector that nurtures talent from any background.

Activities

Our work consists of three strands of charitable activity:

  1. We give bursaries for music lessons, dance classes and drama school (recall) audition and tuition fees to those who cannot afford to pay themselves.
  2. We set up and run youth theatre projects in areas where there is little or no such provision, including a pilot project in a young offender institution.
  3. We provide theatre tickets for school children who rarely or have never been to the theatre.

With our supporters help, we work hard to ensure that talented young people are not at risk of being excluded from training in the arts because of lack of finances.
