Objectives

Preserving built heritage and historic landscapes in Georgia before they disappear

Georgia possesses many historic sites worthy of saving and promoting, either as tourist venues, or workable businesses that will pay for the structure’s (or land’s) upkeep. Through campaigning, awareness raising and providing expert advice and training, the National Trust of Georgia provides a practical means of helping Georgians to preserve buildings and land. In addition to other partners, we are supported by INTO the International National Trusts Organisation in the UK who helps facilitate collaboration in the international heritage sector.

We have recently completed two major projects and seek to grow the organization with skilled volunteers to increase our impact.

Activities

What the NTG does

  • We link Georgians into a growing global trend of preserving historical property and landscape before it disappears
  • We identify landscapes and buildings at risk and raise funds for/provide a practical sustainable means of helping to preserve buildings and land
  • We set up and run educational projects for current and future generations to better understand and value their own built and natural environment.

How we work

  • We have recently completed reparation of our headquarters in old Tbilisi in accordance with international conservation standards. This vital hub now provides office space, training, and exhibition areas as well as a café and library to encourage local engagement
  • We raise awareness by mounting exhibitions, hosting talks, organising knowledge and work exchanges, and gradually plan to extend our activities towards other properties and landscapes
  • We fundraise to enable project work, pay for skill training and to award annual prizes to recognize efforts and encourage Georgians to conserve historic buildings and landscapes

Who we’re helping

  • We encourage and connect Georgian and international volunteers and individuals who want to actively help in maintaining national heritage (via partnerships with INTO International National Trust Organisation and other partner organisations like Rempart)
  • Through capacity building, we enable Georgians to maintain their own heritage thus supporting economic development through skilled local employment
