The National Network for the Education of Care Leavers (NNECL) is a community of education and other professionals working together to transform the progression of care experienced people into and through further and higher education. By improving national co-ordination and collaboration, we aim to reduce the disparities in support which these young people typically experience, with the ultimate goal that more will benefit from further and higher education and move into fulfilling careers. As the only organisation solely dedicated to this mission, we develop, evaluate and disseminate effective practice, working with our members in all relevant settings.
Our ultimate goal is to secure better and more consistent levels of support for care experienced students. We do this by improving communication across sectors, encouraging greater dialogue and exchange between schools, local authorities, colleges and universities. We also develop opportunities to share good work, to collaborate on new projects or research, and to advocate for change. In 2021, we launched a new Quality Mark for universities and colleges to evidence their commitment and support for care experienced students from initial outreach activities through to graduation and beyond. We provide CPD via regular webinars and an annual conference, as well as monthly newsletters and policy briefings.
