The National Mining Museum is a heritage organisation with aims to protect and safeguard the collections associated with the mining industry and through public access and participation programmes allow visitors to learn about and through heritage. Beneficiaries are the public, people associated with the mining industries, schools and communities. Our role is important to help safeguard and inform of the importance and value the coal industry had ion the shaping of Scotland.
The organisation operates a wide ranging visitor services to enable visitors to engage with and learn about the coal industry and the wider energy debate. There are guided tours, exhibitions, an extensive education programme, community engagement initiatives, online access, outreach programmes, collections management and research and advocacy.
