We are the charity for Community Land Trusts in England and Wales and are a membership body. Community Land Trusts (CLTs) are an exciting and dynamic part of the housing sector where local people are developing affordable homes and other assets, like community food growing or energy. The CLT's main task is to make sure the homes are genuinely affordable, based on what people actually earn in their area, not just for now but for every future occupier.
There are now 170 CLTs across England and Wales, half of which formed in the last two years, as more and more people are experiencing the impact of the housing crisis and are deciding to 'do it themselves' by setting up CLTs to build affordable homes.
At NCLTN we help people set up CLTs and help them deliver affordable homes and other assets. We do that by campaigning and lobbying to create a better environment for CLTs and by providing set up grants, support and resources.
We are a small organisation with big ambitions to see a CLT in every community. We are also in the process of trying to become financially sustainable as an organisation where our core activity is funded through subscriptions and earned income as opposed to grants.
