My Academic Family is a social enterprise whose goal is to help more students successfully complete their university degrees. While we have support services for all students, we are most interested in supporting first-generation, care experienced, estranged, and displaced students. For these students, we have a Mentorship Programme that pairs students one-on-one with volunteer mentors who have already completed their university degree at the level the student is studying for. Having this support helps students remain more engaged in their studies, navigate the university environment more successfully, make the most of the opportunities available, and successfully complete their university degrees. Completing this level of education opens up a new world of possibilities for employment and careers, having a positive effect on each student's mental health and wellbeing as well as future financial situation.
My Academic Family delivers workshops to prospective students, parents, and current students on different topics. We also have one-on-one support that helps with application planning, writing the personal statement, and coaching for traditional university students. For first-generation, care experienced, estranged, and displaced students, we have a Mentorship Programme that matches students one-on-one with volunteer mentors who have already completed their university degree at the level the student is studying for.
