Objectives

The Mount Group, Riding for the Disabled transforms the lives of children and adults with a wide range of mental and physical disabilities.  With an enthusiastic team of trained volunteers, we provide therapeutic horse riding sessions for over 60 riders each year.  Our riders come from Special Schools, Residential Care and we also have individual children and adults who ride with us.. They experience a sense of freedom and challenge and movement in a unique, fun and relaxed environment. Imagine being in a wheelchair looking up at people then being on a horse and looking down or a child finding their voice for the first time as they ask their pony to “Trot!”

The Mount Group gives people with disabilities the same opportunities as their able-bodied peers.

The benefits to health and well-being are phenomenal. We regularly witness improvements to physical strength, balance and co-ordination and emotional well-being.

We are committed to the sustainability of The Mount Group. It costs £22000 to hire horses and ponies and premises and for insurance and maintenance etc.

Activities

Primarily we offer riding lessons during school hours. We also provide non-ridden activities such as grooming and learning about horse care. The lessons are designed to meet the needs of our beneficiaries, whilst providing fun and enjoyment.
