Objectives

Mojatu Foundation was formed in 2011 and registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (Charity No: 1167557) in 2016.

We work with those experiencing racial and gender inequality, particularly African and Caribbean women, children, and families, to develop their capacity, skills, and connections in such a way that they are better able to identify, help and meet their needs and to participate more fully in society.

We mainly operate in Nottingham but have partnership projects in Derby, Reading and overseas in Kenya, Somaliland and The Gambia.

Activities

Our six core activities include:

  1. Community media and engagement: Provide community information, raise awareness and amplify authentic community voices through Mojatu Magazines, Mojatu.com, newsletters, community events, and activities.
  2. Health and wellbeing: Raise awareness of health issues through workshops, training and events alongside working with partners on specific health initiatives such as mental health, wellbeing, diabetes and prostate cancer.
  3. Ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM): Our work includes awareness raising, training to professionals and one to one support to survivors.
  4. Empowering Women & Girls: Girls and women focused programmes including training, sports, self-development, volunteering, networking and confidence building plus tackling gender based violence.
  5. Education and employment: Provide skills development and employability programmes plus functional skills including English Language and digital skills and resources.
  6. Capacity building grassroots community groups: Support emerging groups through provision of office space, help with setting up, funding and marketing and connections.
