Objectives

Minority Matters (MM) was established to support disadvantaged BAME communities, in particular refugee migrant ethnic background minorities that were/are facing multiple barriers such as social exclusion, cultural taboos and access to services. Our mission is to empower young people from ethnic minority backgrounds and those experiencing poverty and deprivation to have more choices and to be able to take more control of their lives by fulfilling their full potential enabling them to play a healthy and active role in their communities. Our work is focused on uplifting communities and safeguarding children & young people, tackling poverty, educational & employment inequalities and social isolation. We are a grassroots organisation established in 2010 and led by representatives (founder and trustees are women, from refugee migrant backgrounds) of the community we support. Majority of our beneficiaries are Somali, however we do support other ethnic minorities as well. We want to build resilience and raise the
aspirations of YP, encouraging them to make positive choices, play healthy and active roles in British society. We have the trust of our community and inside knowledge of the issues, enabling us to find innovative solutions.
