Objectives

The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) is Britain’s oldest building conservation charity. Its Mills Section is the only UK national body concerned with the protection, repair and continued use of traditional windmills and watermills.

Activities

As part of its campaign to save traditional mills from destruction and conversion, the Mills Section provides guidance and funding to facilitate sympathetic repair, and offers a scholarship for training in the endangered skill of millwrighting. The Section also celebrates our milling heritage through events such as National Mills Weekend and by organising courses and annual tours to mills across the UK.
