Geographical remit:
National - Britain

We encourage the public (especially young people) to learn about their travel and transport heritage - if they understand and appreciate it, they are more likely to value the milestones and other artefacts that measure out a path into the past. We give talks, teach skills, build up databases, provide information. Few other bodies care about our wayside artefacts; milestones are tiny 'listed buildings', too small to have 'friends' individually, and at risk of theft, vandalism, impact damage as well as casual neglect.

We 'spread the word' by giving talks, teaching skills, building up a nationally-recognised series of databases, offering conservation guidance, running a lively facebook group, doing publications...

And we apply for Heritage Lottery, Big Lottery and other funding to help us do this.
