The Message Enterprise Centre opened in 2012 and is providing
a holistic solution for men and women leaving prison and rehabilitation who are serious about making a new start.
And it’s working. In our first three years, fewer than 10% have re-offended – compared to nationwide re- offending rates of around 80%.
*The actual re-offending rate is nearer to 80% compared with the MEC figure of 9%, because of a condition in place that states if the date between leaving prison and court conviction exceeds 12 months, the individual is not classed as a re-offender.
EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING
Our two-year programme starts with jobs paying the Living Wage in
one of our businesses. We offer every member of our team practical
training and recognised qualifications.
HOUSING
We place each Team Member in a safe home and community. In 2016
we opened the doors to The Oaks – a 12-bedroom residential training
centre in Sharston.
CHRISTIAN SUPPORT
What makes the MEC distinctive is that our Christian faith underpins
everything we do. All of our Team Members have have demonstrated
a desire to live a Christian lifestyle. Each Team Member undertakes our
Roots discipleship programme which is a resource designed to help
them stand firm in the Christian faith.
