Meningitis Now's vision is a future where no-one loses their life to meningitis and everyone affected gets the support they need to rebuild their lives. To achieve this we raise awareness, fund research and provide support.
Meningitis strikes in an instant but its impact lasts a lifetime. Meningitis Now, formed from the merger of Meningitis Trust and Meningitis UK in 2013, is the founder of the meningitis movement in the UK and the only meningitis charity focused entirely on the UK. We have achieved much since we were formed in 1986, but there is so much more to do. We receive no statutory funding and are only able to move ever closer to our vision with the tireless help of our volunteers and those who support us through fundraising and donations.
We save lives through research and awareness.
Our research is undertaken through leading institutions in the UK and we have played a significant part in the development and introduction of the 5 vaccines that are available in the UK. But there are still not vaccines against all forms of meningitis.
Knowing the signs and symptoms of meningitis enables people to take fast action if they suspect it. That fast action literally can save lives and prevent long term after-effects. We raise awareness through all communications channels including face to face talks, and awareness campaigns.
The impact of meningitis is lifelong whatever the outcome. Having access to support tailored to the needs of the individual, their family and friends enables people to move forward. We are there for people as long as they need us with practical and emotional support across the UK.
