Objectives

The Memo Arts Centre –  works under the trading name Memo Arts Centre (MAC) our constitution’s objectives are to; provide public benefit through the provision of facilities for the recreational; educational; cultural; artistic; and other leisure occupations in the interests of the social welfare for Barry and the surrounding area.

We bring creative experiences to our audiences which seek to challenge, entertain, transport, and enchant, no matter who you are or where you come from. MAC is where people from all backgrounds come to get creative, participate and engage in professional small-mid scale touring theatre, live music concerts, dance, cinema, comedy, and participatory arts and crafts, our events where possible incorporate settings, subtitled, relaxed, and support BSL to promote the furtherance of our engagement diversity.

We are driven - by our passionate belief that cultural experiences are crucial to the wellbeing of individuals and communities. We want to make sure that we create open doors, that welcome new people, with fresh opportunities and benefit the widest public to interact in a space which is safe and open to all.

Activities

Our Support for Creatives – emerging in their careers alongside established artists, dancers, musicians, choreographers, performers, and practitioners by providing valuable in-kind, rehearsal and development facilities and technical resources to enable their talent to shine.  These valuable resources are usually set against their ACW and other funding applications and activity development plans.

Our Local Economic Impact - MAC is a substantial community economic resource, that supports community groups and along with many others to develop further income generation for both our hire clients and the MAC through the significant facilities and services we offer within the venue: Main theatre and cinema - proscenium stage, eight dressing rooms, green room, auditorium, and circle (856 seated/1,100 standing/ 850 delegates) small theatre (200 seated), Oriel Studio (90 seated/ artist residency rehearsal space) and Memo 1-2-3- spaces (60 /40 /15 seated) along with Three licensed bars, hospitality, box-office and technical production services, 120 onsite space car park.

Our Planning– is influenced by our area’s socio-economic landscape and by considering its regional plans, priority framework and open conversations with stakeholders to help us identify our existing strengths, vulnerabilities, challenges, and future opportunities areas for our development and growth potential.  

Alongside our professional touring productions, we are increasingly forging new creative partnerships to produce and commission original work. We promote, manage, and deliver a fully equipped year-round hire activity platform for community events, including amateur productions, week-long community productions, business/community events and private gatherings.
