The Trust’s Memorandum of Association original object is to ‘advance the education of the public in science, engineering, technology and engineering history by the provision of a museum’.
In furtherance of its object, its powers include the ability to: ‘promote and preserve for the benefit of the public the Beam Engine and Museum’; ‘acquire exhibits’; ‘carry out restoration and research’; ‘carry out works for the improvement and development of the Museum’; ‘provide educational and lecturing facilities and tours’; ‘acquire any real or personal property… for the promotion of its objects’; ‘construct, maintain, add to, improve, furnish, equip and alter any building or erection necessary for the work of the Trust’.
