Geographical remit:

MHDS is an amateur dramatic society which owns and operates its own small theatre in the centre of Market Harborough. It is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation whose purposes are to promote the dramatic arts in the Market Harborough area. Its beneficiaries are its members who participate in its activities, the local community for whom it provides facilities, and the public which it aims to entertain and educate. It is run by its members - there are about 300, of whom half are active participants - under an elected trustee board. All are unpaid volunteers.

MHDS maintains and equips its theatre to a high standard as a community facility . It selects, directs, stages and acts its own season of 6-7 plays each year, enters festivals, and plays host to visiting theatre companies, concerts and other entertainments. It hosts a resident film club and a youth theatre group. It mounts workshops to develop theatre-related skills,as well as social events for its members. It supports all these with the usual stewarding, bar and refreshment facilities, and provides space for other community groups to holds fundraising events and meetings.

It is financially sound and does not expect to rely on grants or fundraising the foreseeable future.
