The Citizens Advice service provides free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone on their rights and responsibilities. It values diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination.


The service aims:

 •To provide the advice people need for the problems they face

 •To improve the policies and practices that affect people's lives.

We're not just here for times of crisis - we also use clients' stories anonymously to campaign for policy changes that benefit the population as a whole.


We provide a drop-in service for face-to-face, as well as telephone, advice, 5 days a week from our Maldon offices. We also have weekly outreach surgeries in Burnham on Crouch and Southminster, and carry out home visits for residents throughout the district whose physical or mental disabilities or caring responsibilities make it difficult to go out.

Our fantastic team of highly trained volunteers and part-time staff give holistic advice across all subject areas. The outcomes achieved can be life changing for many of our clients. Each year we help over 3,000 people, some with a simple enquiry but others who need help over many months with many interviews and are given significant levels of support. 

To improve the policies and practices that affect people's lives, we provide evidence through anonymised case studies to our national organisation. They are able to collate this evidence and use it to campaign for change at the highest level. We also highlight issues at a local level.

Maldon & District Citizens Advice is regulated by the FCA to provide debt advice. As well as helping people who are already struggling with their finances, we offer help with budgeting and sessions in schools and youth groups to try to prevent future indebtedness.
