We teach sewing and craft activities to all ages and abilities. Our aim is to offer workshops that areinclusive and accessible. We bring people together through making, building a creative community. Sharing the positive impact making can have on mental wellbeing. We are passionate about unlocking creative potential. Our workshops are eco-conscious. We believe teaching people how to make and mend can change their attitude to consumption.
Our organisation is based in the London Borough of Lewisham. The majority of our work is with Lewisham residents or people from the surrounding Boroughs. Our work is intergenerational. We work with children as young as 6 through to retired adults 70+. We have done a number of projects with local housing associations, youth clubs and charities who help people who are experiencing homelessness as well as charities supporting people from sanctuary seeking backgrounds.
We have a good relationship with local support networks who promote our free workshops. For example; Community Connections Lewisham. Who are a social prescribing service.
We offer subsided weekly sessions called the Sewcial that anyone can attend to use our equipment, expertise and meet other likeminded sewers.
We run after school and holiday classes for children teaching sewing as well as upcycling and mending skills.
We apply for grants and usually have at least one funded project offering free sewing courses for local residents who are experiencing financial hardship or feeling isolated.
We run regular mending workshops around the Borough.
