London Arts in Health Forum is a small strategic London based charity, which aims to develop the role of culture in wellbeing and to promote and support arts in health activity across London and nationally and the ways the arts can improve peoples’ wellbeing and address health inequalities. Those who experience the greatest health inequalities are also those least able to access the arts, including those in hospitals and care homes, disabled people, those who are dying, and the 1 in 4 of us who experience mental ill-health. Nowhere in England is this inequity of access more acute than in London.
LAHF supports artists and health professionals across the whole of London and beyond, promoting excellence and engagement in the field of arts and wellbeing, and extending the reach of the arts to communities and individuals who would otherwise be excluded.
LAHF is connected to all the leading arts in health programmes across London and the UK, and works in partnership with others to support this work, creating better provision for those who are currently undeserved; particularly those who are excluded from opportunities to lead or participate in arts activities due to disability or long term health conditions. LAHF has already significantly changed attitudes across London and continues to shine a light on this work
Through its activities, LAHF works to promote, develop and support the understanding of what the arts can do to contribute to a healthy society, in London and nationally, and by so doing to encourage the use of the arts in settings beyond the mainstream.
The Charity runs an annual festival to celebrate the impact the arts can have on health and wellbeing, Creativity and Wellbeing week. This has been running for around seven years and consisted of 350 events last year, with 350 thousand people attending. This week is going national this year.
The charity continues to act as advocate and campaigner for the sector. We established the National Alliance for Arts, Health and Wellbeing in 2013. Before this there was no national voice or strategic overview for arts and health. It is now a coherent voice on arts and health policy to government and it will continue to champion practice and increase access to research that demonstrates how the arts contribute to wellbeing.
LAHF is a membership organisation and or main purpose is to provide resources, news and support to our 3000 members. This includes a newsletter with jobs, news and other opportunities reach through social media, events and resources.
