The Kennington Association, which runs Lollard Street Adventure Playground, is a resident-led community organisation created to facilitate communication, cooperation, and foster cohesion among a diverse local population. Our main project is running the adventure playground, which we took over in 2013 after it was closed following a round of council spending cuts. Overall, we are a membership organisation that aims to improve local amenities, promote recreation, and support the health and wellbeing of local people.
Lollard Street Adventure Playground offers local children aged 6-16 access to a free adventurous staffed playground with independent play activities, alongside their peers. Our playground is in Kennington, North Lambeth and our beneficiaries live in a densely populated urban area characterised by traffic, crime, poverty and a lack of play or social opportunities. The playground offers them a challenging and fun environment with facilities including rope swings, zip lines and climbing wall; loose parts for imaginative play, a bike project, nature garden, two sports pitches and activities and much more. We also organise a successful Secret Santa fundraising campaign every year distributing groceries vouchers to local families in need every December.
