Objectives

Liverpool Lighthouse is a Christian based charity running a number of community projects that engage with vulnerable, isolated and hard to reach groups living in some of the most deprived neighbourhoods in the UK.  Our centre is a refurbished former Gaumont Cinema building 100meters from LFC stadium in Anfield bordering with the Everton ward. This area of Liverpool is one of the poorest parts of the country suffering with high unemployment, poor health and poor quality housing.

Through all our projects and activities we want to:

  1. reduce isolation
  2. improve skills for life and employability and
  3. use our fantastic and unsusual facilities to foster better social cohesion. Our projects target young people, families and children, unemployed and low-skilled adults, asylum seekers/refugees and economic migrants with language needs, older folk living in isolation.

We focus on raising aspirations, motivation and confidence; equipping people with tools to succeed – skills, including lifeskills, trainng and qualifications; reducing isolation; improving health and well-being; improving community cohesion and integration; providing quality information, advice and guidance, and improving access to employment and further development.  We also aim to provide a warm, friendly environment in which people feel valued and cared for.

Our work serves people not only Anfield and Everton, but further afield, including the neighbouring wards of Walton, Kirkdale, Kensington and Fairfield.

We are the only local provider offering this range of services and each year we make an in-depth difference to 750 lives, engaging a further 15,000 through performances in our venue.  Since 1999 we have engaged over 4,000 young people from the streets, trained over 1,400 adults, brought over 700 older people out of isolation, equipped 500 younger people with qualifications, helped create 300 jobs.

Over nearly 20 years we have developed successful, high impact programmes, secured £millions in funding and transformed derelict spaces into a vibrant building fully equipped for community use, developing a reputation for powerful in-house and outreach work that genuinely transforms lives. Our 8-year alternative education project has been set up as a free school in its own right.
