Lewisham Young Women's Resource project (LYWRP) is a small independent charity in South East London, with a long track record of success. We provide a much needed safety-net for vulnerable girls and young women, up to the age of 25.
The challenges facing the girls and young women we support and the stories they tell are often heartbreaking. They experience abuse, bereavement and isolation, often within homes where there is little care or attention given by parents, who themselves struggle to cope with life. Hope is in short supply. We are often the last resort for professions trying to turn things around.
They are staggered by the results we achieve Our services focus on the development of these young people’s sense of self, their inner resources, resilience and capacity to cope with life’s challenges. These include daily Education Provision (for those excluded or not coping in mainstream school), After-School, and support for young mums under 23 years of age, plus mentoring and counselling. working on average with 420 young women per year. Outcome evaluation measured by: • Increased levels of personal confidence: 65% of girls will report an increased in confidence from by a minimum of 4 points (on a scale of 1 to 10) after 6 weeks. • Personal targets – 70% of girls will succeeded in reaching 2 out of 4 of their personal improvement targets (e.g. could be attendance at school, behaviour at home, asking for help, finding better ways of dealing with anger etc) within 6 weeks. for more information please see website.
Working closely with the Lewisham Virtual school, social services and other relevant agencies.
