The Lenox Project aims to build and sail a replica 17th century wooden naval ship in the former Royal Dockyard in Deptford, south east London. Construction of this full-size ship will enable us to provide training and apprenticeships for local people, give an insight into wooden shipbuilding techniques of the 17th century, and educate people about the immense maritime heritage of Deptford.
As well as providing employment, training and apprenticeships, the charity works to raise awareness of, and to celebrate the shipbuilding and dockyard heritage of Deptford.
We are currently working towards establishing a presence on the riverside site so that we can begin to build the infrastructure that we require; in the interim we fund outreach to local schools and free events for the general public to educate them about the history of Deptford and make them aware of its maritime heritage.
