Objectives

LAA is a Rehoming Centre for dogs and cats that may have been abused, neglected, abandoned or relinquished by their owners who can no longer care for them.  We care for and rehomed approximately 400 animals each year.  Our Centre is purpose built with an emphasis on rehabilitation and enrichment.  Our team are qualified, experienced and dedicated to excellent quality of care and supported by a team of volunteers.  We also provide educational services for the public including our Junior Members Club and K9 Kidz workshops that help educate our future pet owners in responsible and safe pet care.  We host young adults with opportunities to aid their animal care study and also support young adults with learning difficulties.  Our Community Pet Support Scheme supports vulnerable pet owners in their own homes care for their pets which helps to prevent feelings of social isolation and loneliness and prevents unnecessary relinquishment into rescue/rehoming centres.

Activities

Our site occupies 4.5 acres in rural Leicestershire and enjoys purpose built, quality cat and dog accommodation, opportunities for exercise, socialisation, play and training to help prepare them for new, loving homes.  We are a member organisation and offer many volunteer opportunities for local people and students.  We host talks and tours to local community groups, have a regular newsletter and hold a local authority stray dog contract.  We have also recently launched a Pet Food Bank and Community Warm Space to help pet owners who are struggling with the cost of living crisis.  We also have 2 on-site charity shops and hold many fundraising events throughout the year including our annual Family Fun Day for the whole community to enjoy.  We are proactive in promoting responsible pet ownership and offer free, professional advices to the general public.
