Established to keep local heritage buildings in the ownership and for the use of the people of Ledbury and surrounding area, Ledbury Places is committed to ensuring that these buildings are sustainable, accessible and add value to the area through supporting & enhancing the visitor experience in the town.
We currently own three buildings:
Ledbury Places already works in partnership with local societies and groups, including Ledbury Poetry, the Civic Society, Ledbury Town Council, Ledbury Independent Traders Association and others. We aim to develop this partnership approach to ensure that the town's heritage sites remain accessible and provide a resource for both local people and visitors.
We are developing an education programme based on the history of this fascinating market town, with its burgage plots, timbered buildings and beautiful surrounding countryside. Local schools already start their exploration of Ledbury in the Heritage Centre, and we aim to extend this to reach a wider area.
The Heritage Centre offers a fascinating insight into the town's history and involves local volunteers in research and developing displays as well as staffing the museum. A current project has Ledbury Boy Scouts interviewing older members of the community about their schooling. These interviews will provide the basis for an audio-visual display in the museum.
A small shop offers relevant, often Ledbury-themed, items and where possible we source goods made locally. We also offer local artists and crafts people an opportunity to display and demonstrate their work.
Many local groups rent the Upper Floor for meetings, including Led Buried - a local crime writing group!
