Objectives

We help local children and their families to have a different start to the mainstream childcare on offer.  The majority of the day is spent outdoors forging a deep connection with nature and the seasons. The exemption to not introduce any formal learning until the age of 7 means we can protect their enthusiasm and joy for just being.  After Covid, we have been a shelter to many vulnerable children who have struggled to engage socially with their peers.  Sensory overwhelm has also been managed with ease at this site due to the abundance of nature and quiet, gentle tones of the teachers.

We also provide multiple opportunities for families to come together as a community through festivals and community days. This helps the families to connect with each other and the site and help it become a parent led community project.

Activities

We offer 4 hours outside every day except on our outdoor day which is 6 hours outdoors.

We follow a gentle rhythm of free play, daily activity (painting, crafts, chopping etc) and then puppet shows and spoken stories to nourish their minds.  The participation in growing, making, serving and clearing up lunches provides a connection to healthy food and community.
