Objectives

LASER is a small (around 2000 members) community-based Credit Union with a long-established reputation of providing affordable financial services to those most in need in Rotherham. Registered in 2003 we have primarily aimed to offer a responsible alternative to doorstep, pay day, log book, high-cost/hard edged commercial lenders. Rotherham has relatively high levels of deprivation and financial exclusion. Our aims and core values include:

promoting financial inclusion, security, responsibility and independence
making our products and services relevant and accessible
making credit union membership available for all
behaving ethically and prudently

Activities

We are the only credit union offering a face-to-face service in Rotherham. We have stayed open during the whole of the Covid pandemic

We provide fully regulated and secure financial services to members both face-to-face and on-line and through our mobile app including:

the facility to save regularly for both adult and junior members
low cost loans including a range of products tailored to members' needs, including crisis loans in emergencies
responsible lending meaning members only borrow what they can afford to repay
the opportunity to be involved in the credit union's democratic processes, standing for office on the Board of Directors, voting at the AGM, influencing policy and operational developments
