Objectives

In a world that values winning and coming first L'Arche Communities are places where people can discover who they are not just what they can do.

There are 11 L'Arche Communities in the UK where people with and without learning disabilities share life together, living and/or working in community.  All are part of the International Federation of L’Arche which was founded by Templeton Laureate Jean Vanier.

Although grounded in the Christian tradition, L'Arche Communities welcome people of all faiths and none: our vision is a world where all belong.  For more information about L’Arche go to www.larche.org.uk

Like other support providers we are regulated and inspected to ensure a high quality of provision.

Activities

In L’Arche Liverpool our focus is on community and friendships. We recognise that all too often people with learning disabilities find themselves isolated and lonely in supported tenancies. We believe we have found the answer to this in offering people the ‘best of both worlds’ in providing independent living with interdependent support.

We work closely with local Housing Associations to ensure that the accommodation provided for the people we support is of the highest quality, is accessible and meets the needs of the individuals.

Each person we support has their own tenancy with a housing association, in either shared houses/flats or in individual flats. Those people living in shared accommodation have their own en suite bathroom.

All of the individual flats are purpose build to our specification and are in buildings with communal space to enable tenants to ‘get together’ on a regular basis to develop their friendships and relationships.

Our latest development is in Liverpool 7. We are working closely with property consultants Hardcastle and Hogarth, Progress Care Housing Association and Wellcare Construction, all companies who are dedicated to providing the highest quality accommodation for people with learning disabilities.

This development provides 8 self-contained individual flats for people with learning disabilities. The flats are all in the one building over 3 floors served by a lift  for people who use wheelchairs. All flats are accessible for people with physical disabilities. There is a 9th flat that serves as the office and staff room as well as the communal space for everybody to access, this flat will be on the ground floor and will have patio doors opening out to the garden. The building is detached with  landscaped gardens with room for cars to park at the front.

We also offer a variety of day opportunities in The Ark, our busy resource centre in Liverpool 7. Here you can meet your friends whilst enjoying many different activities including designing and printing greeting cards, candle making, cooking, baking, photography, computer skills and gardening, along with many other activities that you might want to take part in.
