Objectives

We work with people in challenging circumstances and with artists of the highest quality.  We run projects throughout the year introducing  top class professional musicians and music making to people who would otherwise not get this opportunity. In particular we work with young people with special needs of all kinds, and with displaced adults.

Since the pandemic the charity’s work has never been more needed, with state schools cutting back on arts subjects, increasing anxiety and isolation of young people, the sudden influx of refugees from Ukrainian and elsewhere, and professional musicians severely impacted by the lack of opportunities to perform.

Activities

La Folia is a music charity and production company bringing together instrumentalists, singers, actors, dancers, visual artists and writers to create new music, original projects and ground-breaking performances under the artistic directorship of Howard Moody. At the heart of La Folia is the core value of transforming music by making extraordinary performances in unexpected places, breaking through conventional barriers, working with people in challenging circumstances and with artists of the highest quality. We aim to challenge the idea of who gets to make, perform and experience live performance.  We run workshops with underprivileged groups, create large-scale projects with a performance by the groups involved, working alongside top-class professional musicians.  We also commission new compositions and perform them with high production value in venues such as Salisbury Cathedral, thus introducing large audiences to the music of today.
