Objectives

Our beneficiaries are primarily the residents of our town and surrounding villages, but, of course all environmental and climate action benefits the region and the world, in a small way, and has the power to inspire people elsewhere.  In this spirit, we often do joint activities with other towns and villages, and also share good ideas from elsewhere.

Most of our activities are of the group or self-help kind, such as Give or Take Days, coppicing and hedge-laying, repair cafes,  eco-fairs with talks, creating and circulating the Kirkbymoorside Shopping Guide, thermal imaging, creating areas for wildflowers, and our tree nursery.

Our impact is having become very well-known and well supported in our town.  We have a large email list, and lots of people turn out to help

Activities

Most of our activities are of the group or self-help kind, and throughout our 17 years, these have been led by the passions, skills and inspirations of different individuals, who have co-opted others to help. None of them would happen without the active support of other residents.  We have worked out the best way to do things, and events such as the  Give or Take Days and repair cafes have now been successfully copied in other nearby towns. Some activities are done in partnership with our Town Council, such as the coppicing and hedge-laying, and wild flower projects. Our sustainable transport activities are regional, working with Moorsbus.org and Ryedale Cycle Forum.  Creating and circulating the Kirkbymoorside Shopping Guide sprung from the local desire to keep our town centre alive.
