Objectives

Kids Kitchen inspires adults and kids to cook great food together: improving wellbeing, promoting sustainability and creating opportunity.  Our ultimate goal is a a fair and sustainable global food system, supported by connected and healthy families.

Activities

We:

  • Run cooking sessions in accessible community locations and online.  We cook delicious meals from scratch with families then we sit and eat together. We talk about ingredients, sustainability, local info, our lives, our kids. We have fun, learn new skills, build confidence, connect parents to each other and their community. These sessions are the core element of what we do, and other services and products are guided by the values of our sessions.
  • Provide recipe/ingredients bags direct to family homes, working with food banks and housing associations- 76 families in 2021/22.  We also hold pop-up cooking activities at festivals/events or as outreach to families with particular needs.
  • Deliver training for parents/carers/practitioners on cooking with adults and children together (12 completed this training 2020-2021). Training is tailored to participants needs and can include CPD credits.
  • Support volunteers to participate in regular sessions and run Kids Kitchen style sessions in their homes, friends’ houses, at cafes etc. Volunteers welcome and reassure other parents, and support attendees to engage and voice feedback, crucial to our approach. Volunteers gain confidence and experience and, crucially, can bring their kids with them.
  • Develop and share resources that empower more people to cook with young children. We showcase our flexible and parent-first approach which runs throughout our organisation. We share tips, recipes and a spirit of solidarity with our online followers and we host an active online network where we share local information, best practice and provide in depth support to other parents and small organisations.
