Objectives

The Kew Society aims to protect and enhance the unique heritage and green environment of Kew and to make a positive contribution to the lives of everyone who lives or works in Kew.

We do this by:

Encouraging high standards of planning and architecture in Kew and its neighbouring areas

Actively protecting and improving the green and streetscape environment of Kew, including planting and maintaining public flowerbeds.

Organising and running a diversity of events for our 720+ members, and encouraging people to meet others within the community.

Activities

We act on behalf of our members to make well informed comments upon large scale planning applications that could have a significant impact upon our local community or (for example) affect historic vistas. As a general rule, we do not comment upon domestic planning applications.

We represent members, and are active participants in a range of environmental groups concerned with - for example - the river and riverbank, local green spaces and the 'look' and safety of our streets and public areas.

We organise and run a diversity of talks, walks, visits and social events, including (in association with the Kew Community Trust) a monthly 'Meet in Kew' gathering to help people meet other people who also live locally. We have recently introduced WhatsApp 'shared interest' groups to connect members from all generations.

We have very positive relationships with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, The National Archives, our local MP and councillors and are increasingly collaborating for mutual benefit with other local groups and charities.
