Attracting over 30,000 attendees, Kemptown Carnival is Brighton’s largest free community arts street festival.
Taking place across Kemptown Village, the Carnival is jammed packed with fun for every age; live music, samba parades and performances, street theatre, dance troupes, morris dancing, choirs, children’s activities, delicious food and drink from amazing local traders, fairground rides, arts and crafts stalls, and the Grand Custard Pie Fight!
The Carnival is, at its heart, a community event and needs lots of volunteer support to be able to run. There are a variety of roles available both in the lead up to the event and on the day, from education and work experience opportunities to artistic input to management support to, most importantly, community enthusiasm and participation!
The Carnival aims to showcase and develop home-grown music and talent, to strengthen the local and UK Carnival network by inviting UK and international samba bands and performers to get together and play, and to involve the local community through volunteering, educational opportunities and on-the-day participation. The Carnival is also funding and developing 5 Arts Council projects to showcase at the Carnival and then tour across the UK.
