We run a not for profit
company, which aims to
help traditional artisans in
India sell their hand made
products in the UK market.
One aim is to assist in the
perpetuation of these nearly
lost arts. We also aim to
create employment and
opportunities to gain work
experience to people in India
and in the UK . The people
we aim to create work for are
currently living in poverty,
suffer from disabilities and/or
struggle to find employment.
We collaborate with a
group of Indian volunteers
and part time workers to
source products made by
marginalised but highly
skilled traditional Indian
artisans. We are developing
relationships with these
makers to establish reliable
product sources and ensure
good working conditions
for them. We aim to buy
regularly from them, work on
product development with
them and to find markets
their products in the UK and
internationally.
For the last year we have
been conducting market
research on a wide range
of products. Selling them at
East London street markets,
at music festivals and special
fairs.
We now have a substantial
knowledge of Indian
handmade products and
a database of skilled and
reliable craftspeople.
We also have a growing
committed customer base and
a website which averages
300 to 400 hits per month
although we do not yet sell
on-line.
