The John Hampden Society exists to bring together people with an interest in John Hampden, and to encourage wider knowledge of this great 17th century Parliamentarian, his life and times. He came from minor gentry to have a huge impact on the development of democracy, as he is associated with the principle of "no taxation without representation", which inspired the US constitution and the Suffragette movement, among others. We help people with an interest in John Hampden, his campaigns and his times, including historians, researchers, people from institutions which have been named after John Hampden and from areas associated with or named after John Hampden.
