Objectives

Jigsaw Bury is a Bury based registered charity, under which two sub-groups exist: Jigsaw and Jigsaw Link.

Jigsaw is a sports and social group for young disabled people, based in Bury. Our aims are to promote fun, freedom and independence; support people to enjoy an active social life, help people reach their sporting potential and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Jigsaw Link provides a one to one befriending service for people over the age of 50 who are disabled, or have an age related condition, and live in the Borough of Bury. We also offer a weekly luncheon club and social outings throughout the year as well as an Older People’s Active Living Programme.

The Mission Statement of Jigsaw Bury is:

Jigsaw is a member led organisation that aims to promote fun, freedom and independence for disabled people in the Bury Metropolitan area. We support people to form and maintain friendships, and enjoy an active social life. The social activities and befriending scheme we coordinate aim to prevent isolation, improve self esteem and community integration.

Activities

There are a wide range of social activities on offer such as: ten pin bowling, meals out, arts and craft sessions, trips to the cinema, theatre plus day trips further afield!

Furthermore as part of our Lottery funded ‘GO FAR’ project we are offering a ‘Making the Most of Me’ programme which includes sessions on communication, relationships, assertiveness, independent living, money management, safety and healthy living plus healthy eating.

These outings and many more are arranged to enable Jigsaw members and volunteers to socialise in an environment where they feel comfortable to interact with each other, thereby, hopefully, helping the charity achieve its aims of integrating people of all abilities within the community, when and where necessary, and helping them to make friends and lead an active social life.

The current Sports available at Jigsaw include: Athletics, Basketball, Football, Badminton, Rounders, Netball, Kickball, Aerobics, Boccia, Kurling, Boxing, Yoga, Pilates, Cheerleading, Dance Fit, Horse Riding, Gym & Swimming.

Jigsaw works in partnership with Special Olympics Bury to provide various sports sessions. Our aim is to continue to run  popular activities and develop any new sports, upon members’ request. We also participate in local, regional and national sporting competitions.
