Objectives

Irish Film London is a not-for-profit organisation which champions new Irish film and film culture to audiences across the capital, and further afield through touring activities and our online channels.

We work to provide opportunities for the large number of Irish diaspora living in the UK to access Irish film culture, while offering opportunities for others to find and engage with this work. We deliver this through our annual festivals and one-off screening activities which take place in venues across London, but also via our online platforms Irish Film From Home and through the IFL podcast.

Film is one of Ireland's greatest and most successful cultural exports and IFL is at the forefront of championing the creativity, diversity and value of Irish film. We are an inclusive organisation that is committed to showcasing a full range of Irish films to a diverse audience. Our films span from comedies to challenging documentaries, artists' films to major features and lovingly crafted animated shorts. By focusing on Irish productions, scripts and casts, IFL provides a significant platform for Irish film in London and ensures that the best of Irish creative talent is continually promoted in the UK, gets noticed, and meets other creatives and industry professionals.

IFL engages with the 'Creative Ireland' & 'Global Ireland 2025' initiatives, supporting the Irish government's efforts to ensure Irish art is visible to as wide an audience as possible, and helping Irish people across the world engage in their on-screen heritage.

Activities

Annually IFL presents the world's largest Film Festival dedicated to Irish film, screening films in central London cinemas. Through premiere screenings, director Q&A sessions, masterclasses, seminars and bespoke hospitality events, this festival brings together audiences and filmmakers. With the Irish Film London Awards supported and hosted by the Embassy of Ireland in London, the festival has created an important red-carpet event on London's film calendar.

Other annual screenings and events programmed and promoted by IFL in London are the St. Brigid’s Day Celebration of Women, in collaboration with the Embassy of Ireland in London and the St. Patrick's Day Festival with the Mayor of London. In 2021 both events will take place online through Irish Film from Home and we aim to maximize the global reach of these events. In 2020 IFL hosted its first online film festival with premieres, podcasts, interactive live events and exclusive content.

IFL regularly programmes events and film screenings across the UK, in collaboration with existing communities and organisations. IFL engages with the 'Creative Ireland' & 'Global Ireland 2025' initiatives and collaboration is key to how we work. We collaborate with educational institutions, arts organisations, cultural organisations, and Irish groups to promote and deliver a diverse range of Irish Film to the widest audiences.
