We are an international development organisation that has been protecting and promoting the rights of marginalised people in Latin America, West Africa, and the Middle East since 1953. This is usually women, people with disabilities, children and young people, and people living with HIV/AIDS.
We believe in a rights based approach to development, delivered through projects with long term, local partners who are based in the countries in which we operate.
International Service runs programmes with local partners to support marginalised communities to overcome discrimination and play a full role in society. Because our programmes are locally driven, they look different in every place we work. For example, we support children and young people with disabilities in west Africa to exercise their right to play and learn, help women access legal advice and support in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, or coordinating ground breaking research to highlight the levels of avoidable and curable blindness in Bolivia.
We offer volunteer placements overseas in Latin America, the Middle East, West Africa and our offices in York, and work in areas such as female empowerment, disability rights and child poverty.
