IAPWA (International Aid for the Protection & Welfare of Animals) is a UK registered international animal welfare charity, dedicated to creating a better future for animals in need.
Our first project, established in 2009, is based in Sabah, Borneo, where we have a facility and team providing a lifeline to thousands of dogs and cats every year in need of veterinary care and support. Our companion animal programmes have since developed in other countries, including Romania and Penang Island.
Our passion for all animals has also seen us develop many partnerships and launch campaigns to help other species. Wherever there is suffering, we aim to make a difference and with your support we can continue to protect and improve the welfare of animals worldwide.
Borneo Project
Thousands of dogs and cats in Borneo have no owner to feed them or provide them with a safe place to sleep. When they are ill they have nobody to care for them meaning they are not able to get the treatment they need. Under these conditions, many would live just a few years during which they would struggle to survive. IAPWA has worked in Sabah, Borneo since shortly after we were established in 2009. Our work has involved providing a lifeline to the many dogs and cats in need of help.
Penang Island Project
Thousands of strays live on Penang Island and with no humane dog population management programme in place, many were caught and sadly killed. Since our Penang Island Project was established in 2017 it has saved the lives of thousands of dogs who would otherwise have suffered a sad fate under the previous regime
Romania Project
Romania’s stray dog situation is a complex problem which has been well publicised in recent years. When IAPWA first visited there, the animal welfare issues were very apparent. However, we also saw a country full of dedicated individuals and groups working tirelessly with limited resources to give these dogs a better life and we wanted to help.
