Intergenerational Opera brings together Primary School students with local care home residents or over 65 community groups including those living with dementia.
We run 5 week interaactive music projects where we enhance wellbeing, confidence and communication through music making. We provide access to professional musicians, singers and artists to work alongside to support a final performance at the end of each project. We help communities engage with each other, encourage social interaction between diverse age groups and bring music education through exciting musical experiences uplifting activities.
Each project provides five 90 mins sessions involving local professional musicians, singers and artist to perform and create along side both young primary school aged children and the over 65’s in thier local community. We organise for a residential care home or school to host the sessions so that the two age groups can meet each week and engage with each other through music making. We aim to learn new skills together and Opera acts as the catalyst for learning and creativity to become the common goal we work towards.
Our project encourages collaboration and creative communication as we learn music together, composer our own music and learn from professional artists involved each week. The confidence of all participants in sharing music together is uplifting and exciting to experience. Our games, activities and tasks all focus on getting to know people of a different age group and enabling them to connect. Our community interest company is no profit making and we fundraise throughout the year to make this unique project accessible to a wide range of schools and organisations.
