Objectives

House Mill Trust is restoring a wonderful 18th century wooden mill on the edge of the Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. The largest tide powered mill in the world is moving into an exciting new phase, restoring the movement of the 4 huge water wheels, and creating a unique educational, heritage and community resource in an area of massive urban regeneration. There will be tide- powered, sustainable energy generation to sell into the Grid to generate income.  An improvedcafe is in development, -  the mill traditionally ground grain for the nearby gin distillery so we offer gin themed events. Filming, an art gallery space, weddings, and corporate events are already a feature of our unique offer.

Activities

Guided tours of the mill are available - educational programmes introduce children and young people to the mill and its dynamic environment on the Thames tideway. The aim is to create, subject to funding, a major heritage attraction in East London, linked to the extensive waterways network round the Stratford Olympic park. There is a newly fitted cafe and special events are arranged such as gin tastings and heritage tours for specialist and corporate groups. There is a wedding offer, regular art shows and rooms can be hired for conferences and meetings. The mill currently has a commercial tenant occupying one floor of the offices. A garden is available as part of the offer.
