Hospital Radio Basingstoke is a local non-profit organisation and charity broadcasting 24/7 to the patients and staff of Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital through the Hospedia bedside terminals and online. We have recently been granted a DAB Licence, so it is exciting for us as a Radio Station because we can extend our reach to be heard anywhere!
HRB is run solely by unpaid volunteers, who kindly give up their time every week to provide our listeners with an interesting mix of entertainment, great music and local information. We rely on the generosity of local people and businesses through donations, such as prize bags for our Weekend Draw and raffle prizes for our Quiz nights and annual Fashion Show, as well as cash donations, to maintain our 24/7 radio services.
HRB is always on the lookout for new members to join our team at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital. Our members go around the wards to visit our listeners and then play their requests on the air, but you don’t have to be a presenter. You could just be a ward visitor and collect requests for the presenter one day a week or want to do some of the other jobs that go to running a charity and a radio station.
Our main sources of income are through fundraising and promotional activities, such as supermarket collections and placing collection tins in local shops, including the hospital Rendezvous Restaurant, and advertising in our annual 'Patients' Guide.' We take part in local events throughout the year and we also run an annual Charity Quiz Evening and an annual Fashion Show.
We also organise regular 'On Shows' within the hospital, when there are no Covid restrictions, where our volunteers hand out free copies of the 'Patients' Guide', promote HRB's free service with the hospital, collect requests, dedications and all-important donations.
