Living with a life-limiting illness is challenging. Hospiscare is here to help, whether you have cancer, heart disease or any other terminal illness. We support more than 2,500 adults every year, across Exeter, Mid and East Devon.
Every day matters when you have a life-limiting illness. We want to help you make the most of every single one. That might mean supporting you to get the right pain relief, inviting you to social activities, offering you practical advice, or providing specialist end of life care.
The support you receive will be tailored to your individual needs and preferences. All of the care we provide is free of charge.
“Nothing was too much trouble… My dad was always treated with dignity and respect and staff made a real effort to get to know him. They ensured that his last days were peaceful and comfortable and allowed us to spend as much time as possible with him.”
We believe in supporting the whole person. Our aim is to enable you to feel less stressed and more in control, so that you can enjoy each day. Because every day matters.
Support at home
Hospiscare’s community team are here for you and your loved ones. You’ll receive regular visits to discuss your medication, concerns and wishes. Our nurses have received specialist training and you’ll be treated with dignity and respect. We’ll talk to you about your preferred care and will do everything we can to support you to stay at home right the way through your illness if that’s what you desire.
Specialist ward
If you need extra support, you might be referred to our specialist ward in Exeter. It’s a short-stay unit, so most people are only with us for a few days before being discharged. The ward feels very different to a hospital. We have a high staff to patient ratio, and there’s a café, complementary therapy room and garden.
Out of hours support line
If you’re one of our patients, or a family member, carer or healthcare professional, and you need advice at night, please call Hospiscare.
